We believe that the true test of learning is not the accumulation of disconnected facts, but rather the ability to make connections between the information one receives and to apply the newly acquired understanding to real problems.
The mission of Nueva Visión Academy, an independent study program, established by the Education Division in Galt, CA, is to prepare students to achieve proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics, to become life-long learners who are knowledgeable about higher education opportunities, and to become participating citizens in our ever-changing global society.
There are countless language minority and migrant students in the state of California who have not been given the opportunity to realize their enormous potential. For some, the acquisition of a high school diploma has been a major obstacle. And yet, we recognize that this diploma is just the beginning in the quest toward becoming a contributing and successful citizen in our diverse, rapidly changing society. NVA gives students that beginning.
The vision of NVA is to minimize the achievement gap afflicting language minority and migrant high school students and to increase the number of high school diplomas that are acquired by this underrepresented group of students. To this end, NVA provides an environment where students are continually encouraged and empowered to develop a greater sense of confidence and self-worth through self-sufficiency and a sense of pride in their academic accomplishments.
NVA provides language minority and migrant students with the needed opportunities to establish a strong academic foundation, with a particular focus on those students who have not responded to traditional methods and/or those who have been reluctant to participate in the system. NVA’s uniqueness is its ability to offer a medium of support services in both the primary language and English. This enables students to fully understand concepts in their primary language as they become more proficient in English.
