First Five of Sacramento

The First 5 Sacramento Commission works to improve the lives of the county's youngest children and their families through an effective, coordinated, and inclusive implementation of the California Children and Families Act also known as Proposition 10, which was enacted in 1998. The ultimate goal is to enhance the health and early growth experiences of children, enabling them to be more successful in school and to give them a better opportunity to succeed in life.

Since 2004, First 5 Sacramento has provided funding to CRP’s Health Division for the Community Lactation Assistance Project (CLA). This project’s aim is to increase the number of mother’s breastfeeding upon hospital discharge and those continuing for at least one year afterward. The First 5 CLA project provides mothers in CRP WIC with access to Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) who assists and support them with breastfeeding. All 5 CRP Health Division locations serve as a distribution site for First 5 New Parent Resource Kits. For more information go to: http://www.sackids.saccounty.net/default.htm

The Breastfeeding Coalition of Greater Sacramento (BFCG)

The BFCG is a non-profit association of regional representatives, businesses, mothers, lactation consultants and other health care professionals, serving Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado, and Placer counties. The mission is to improve infant, family and community health by making breastfeeding the cultural norm through support, advocacy and professional education. Monthly meetings are held at our WIC office at 915 Broadway on the third Tuesday of each month. For more information go to: http://www.sacbreastfeeding.org

Dietetic Internship Preceptor Site

Community Resource Project, Inc., WIC serves as a preceptor site for various local and out-of-state dietetic internship programs.  Past and present dietetic internship affiliates include California State University, Sacramento, Loma Linda University and Bowling Green State University.  We provide an environment for dietetic interns to apply their knowledge, gain practical experience and training, and receive feedback for improvement to become competent as an entry level registered dietitian. Interns observe nutrition and lactation counseling sessions, assist in developing and teaching WIC participant classes, create in-services for staff development and assist agency dietitians with various nutrition related projects as needed.

Child Abuse Prevention Council, Inc. of Sacramento (CAPC)

CAPC’s vision is to produce healthier, more socially productive children and families by creating sustainable systems designed to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse, neglect or abandonment in Sacramento County. Since 2005 CAPC has partnered with CRP by administering an AmeriCorps grant that provides members to serve their local community. As part of the Great Beginnings program CRP's Health Division utilizes AmeriCorps members to further enhance our breastfeeding promotion efforts. Members provide peer support, assisting our Lactation Consultants and other staff to increase the incidence and duration of breastfeeding. This in turn promotes infant and maternal well-being, which work in conjunction to reduce child abuse.  For more information go to: http://www.thecapcenter.org/capcsac
